The Key to Working in a Team

Being concise and direct is key to effective communication so my goal is to keep posts shorter in the future.

I sat in a referee training camp the past weekend and one particular slide stuck in my mind. Something to think on in life aside from a football refereeing career.

I figured out, later, that it is from a book titled The Ideal Team Player.

The three key elements:

  • Humble
  • Hungry
  • Smart

You need to keep your ego grounded, always want more and be able to execute efficiently while knowing your role.

  • Nobody wants to work with someone who has an ego the size of a blowfish. It’s simply unpleasant listening to an egomaniac.
  • Without hunger, there’s no drive and there’s no progress towards a meaningful goal. You have to know what you want and possess the desire to get there.
  • Missing the intelligence piece leaves you moving without the right knowledge framework to execute what you want to get where you want. Knowing the Laws, emotional intelligence and much more off-the-field help here.

Think about this in every aspect you do. A great foundation for success.

  1. It is quite funny how when looking at a particular area of the Ven diagram, I can picture a referee in each little circle that I have come across over the years.
    always a nice read 🙂

Absolutely! This can either be the most boring or interesting post you’ve read on this blog depending on how much you think about it. 🙂
