A Refsworld package arrived on Wednesday and I was excited to receive it. It had a few requests from the RA AGM meeting less than a month ago so I could pass off the equipment to other refs before I left.

Week 43 & 44
Week 43
The football season is over so it meant I needed to re-strategise. With football and futsal running keeping me active all year round, I could use my officiating in both to work on areas of improvement common to both sports.
I usually keep Continue reading
Week 36
No games during the week. No training either. I decided that it would be good to have a full 5 days with no intense physical activity involving the legs other than generally walking.
It was also a major transition in schedule as I moved from work to classes so it was useful to slow things down.
I’ve had plenty of reflection on match control and how it has affected certain games throughout my career that have been memorable. It will be interesting to try out some new techniques when I next have the chance.
All the action was the weekend.
Feature: Refsworld Card Skins
If you haven’t already tried these, you are missing out.
Card skins are plastic see-through stickers that can be stuck onto a regular card and easily removed as well. What’s the difference between this and a write-on card you ask?
Week 32
This did not start off as a fun week. I was at work late on Monday. I mean quite late. I was at the bus stop waiting for the bus when the Assessment report e-mail had arrived. Continue reading
Week 22 – Part 3
This part is almost exclusively for the weekend’s activities.
Saturday
I had a very interesting game on the Saturday. I had never officiated at this level before and it was a promising prospect. I had been fretting a bit about getting some business wear together because pre-game attire was a suit! I hadn’t worn one for years including a shirt. I’m so used to wearing t-shirts including at work because it just worked that way in my field of work. The closest I had got to was business casual for certain games. I ensured I had everything ready the night before so I could find it easily the next day and just in case I needed to borrow something last minute from someone.
Week 22 – Part 1
Cause & Effect Chart
I’ve been employing a very strategic method of dealing with my areas for improvement in refereeing. Before the season started, I reviewed all of last year’s assessments and the collective feedback and constructed a two-column table. I noted the problems and removed potential duplicates that I had found a cause of potential issues in the game from my performance. I then classified it under the areas of the game it could affect in the seven areas below (could have multiple).
Week 14, 15 & 16
Slow stuff all-in-all for refereeing or at least I thought so.
Week 14
Absolutely swamped in the early part with studying for back-to-back exams that I didn’t have any time to think about refereeing or football whatsoever then. At the end of Week 14, our team travelled away for friendly match in the big city. I travelled as the team manager along with them.
It was an affair for a lot of behind-the-scenes organisation as the two game times had to be finalised and we had to search for a replacement keeper to keep the game on. One of my friends filled in there and I took him out for dinner as a thank you after the games.
Referee Christmas
My interest in refereeing has spawned off several side-businesses for me. One with my expertise in computing and the next in marketing.
I’m going to focus on the latter and I hope the next couple of photos widen your eyes.
A common sight in my room:
Week-end of Week 42
Also forgot to mention in my last post that I received a large package from Refsworld.
How much referee equipment can you picture inside it? Continue reading
